a colleague asked, "hey, you want anything for dinner?  i'm going to toa payoh."

sure.  what do they have?

they're famous for their jian dao fan.

(long pause)  err.. correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't jian dao mean scissors?

yes.  

SCISSORS rice?  (hand gesturing like i'm ready to play rock-paper-scissors.)

yes. (laughing, amused by my reaction)

ok, whatever, i'll try it.

i immediately googled it, and this was the first picture that came up.  ok, meat and 2 veg.  doesn't look too adventurous.  

i asked my colleague when he came back, "so why scissors rice?"

"i guess they cut the food up with scissors."
